1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Circe ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Platform. We may update these terms from time to time, and continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of any changes.

2. Description of Service

Circe provides general financial education, guidance tools, and an AI-powered financial coaching assistant. The Platform is designed to help users understand personal finance concepts, build financial plans, and develop financial confidence. Circe does not provide licensed financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or legal advice.

3. Not Financial Advice

The information provided by Circe, including but not limited to AI-generated responses, financial calculations, savings recommendations, budget guidance, salary benchmarks, and retirement projections, is for educational and informational purposes only. It does not constitute financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or legal advice. Circe is not a registered investment advisor (RIA), broker-dealer, or fiduciary under any applicable law. You should not rely solely on information from Circe when making major financial decisions. We strongly encourage you to consult with a licensed financial professional, tax advisor, or attorney before making significant financial decisions.

4. User Accounts

You must create an account to access certain features of the Platform. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account and to update this information as necessary. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

5. Privacy and Data

Your privacy is important to us. The personal and financial information you provide — including income, savings, debt, identity information, and financial goals — is used solely to personalize your experience on the Platform. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. User data is stored in Supabase, a PostgreSQL database hosted on AWS in the United States. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt encryption before storage and are never stored or transmitted in plain text. Identity information (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity) is used only to provide more accurate, intersectionally-aware financial guidance. It is never used for advertising, shared with third parties, or used for any purpose other than personalizing your guidance. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.

6. The Circe Index

The Circe Index is our proprietary financial modeling framework that incorporates intersectional wage adjustment, values-weighted allocation, life stage planning, and compounding penalty calculations. These are educational models based on publicly available research and documented wage gap data. They are not guarantees of financial outcomes and should not be treated as such. Salary benchmarks, retirement projections, and wage gap calculations are estimates based on aggregate data and may not reflect your individual circumstances.

7. AI-Generated Content

Circe uses artificial intelligence to generate responses and guidance. AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. You should not rely solely on AI-generated content for financial decisions. By using the AI features of the Platform, you acknowledge that responses are generated by an AI system and may not always be accurate or complete.

8. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Platform to: (a) engage in any illegal activity; (b) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Platform; (c) scrape, copy, or redistribute Platform content without permission; (d) use the Platform to harm, harass, or defraud others; (e) impersonate any person or entity; or (f) use the Platform in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform, including but not limited to the Circe brand, the Circe Index methodology, AI system prompts, design, text, graphics, and software, is the property of Circe and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from Platform content without our express written permission.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Circe and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to financial losses resulting from reliance on Platform content.

11. Intersectional Data and Identity Information

Circe collects optional identity information including gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity to provide intersectionally-aware financial guidance. This information is entirely optional. When provided, it is stored in our Supabase database (PostgreSQL on AWS infrastructure in the United States) and is transmitted to OpenAI when generating personalized chat responses, so that the guidance you receive reflects documented real-world disparities. It is never sold, never shared with advertisers, never used for profiling, and never used for any purpose other than calibrating the financial benchmarks and guidance you see on the Platform. You may decline to provide this information at any time without affecting your access to the Platform, and you may delete it from your profile settings at any time.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in California.
